Stockholm County Council chooses APL as its extemporaneous drug manufacturer
Stockholm 2012-01-25. Stockholm County Council (SLL) announced yesterday that APL had won the bid for sterile extemporaneous drug production for the entire county.

The contract will be effective as of the 1st of December 2012. The contract will be valid for four years with the possibility of a two year extension.

The procurement consisted of three areas: pharmaceutical delivery services, pharmaceutical support services and sterile extemporaneous drug manufacturing, of which APL’s tender concerned the latter.

”We are proud of the trust vested in us by SLL to manufacture extemporaneous drugs for the county’s hospitals”, says Eva Sjökvist Saers, CEO, APL. “We are confident that we will meet their high standards and live up to their expectations.”

Extemporaneous drugs are made according to need, for patients who require specially geared drugs. The most common patients who require extemporaneous pharmaceuticals are children, geriatrics, diabetics, allergists and cancer patients. The drugs are also commonly used for pain management and treatment.

The manufacturing of sterile extemporaneous pharmaceuticals for SLL will take place at APL’s Stockholm site at Kungens Kurva as well as at Karolinska University Hospital, Solna.
