Large and small scale manufacturing

APL conducts large-scale manufacturing of some 350 products, so called special pharmaceuticals. These are manufactured using the same type of modern equipment and methods as other pharmaceutical companies. Large scale special pharmaceuticals  have a longer validity date, can be delivered more quickly and are often cheaper than customized pharmaceuticals.

Special pharmaceuticals are also manually manufactured on demand, compounded pharmaceuticals. Manufacturing takes place according to the specification on the prescription, which demands great flexibility in the production process.

National licenses

APL applies for national licenses at the Swedish Medical Products Agency for compounded preparations that are sold in more than 1,000 packages per year. The documentation includes pharmaceutical, pharmacological/toxicological and clinical information about the active substance and the preparation.

In order for a product to be granted a national license it must fill a medical need and not be able to be replaced by an approved pharmaceutical drug or a pharmaceutical available on license.
