Our sustainability efforts encompass environmental, social, and economic responsibility. Sustainability is an integral part of our business model and a key driver of our organizational development. In this work, we consider the expectations of our stakeholders, as well as requirements from regulators and our owner.
APL has committed to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 2030.
Based on the expectations of our owner as a state-owned company, our mission, stakeholder demands, and our own ambitions, we have chosen to prioritize six of the goals:
Good Health and Well-being (Goal 3)
APL’s primary focus is ensuring that patients in need of individualized medicines receive them. We contribute to access to safe, effective, high-quality, and affordable medicines for all.
Clean Water and Sanitation (Goal 6)
Purified water is a vital input in our production and cleaning processes. As water is a critical resource, we must manage it responsibly. We have identified needs for action such as reviewing cleaning methods and agents, as well as reducing water consumption.
Affordable and Clean Energy (Goal 7) & Climate Action (Goal 13)
Reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions are among our greatest challenges. Energy audits form the basis for prioritizing energy-saving investments. Our efforts to lower emissions include the use of fossil-free electricity and district heating, fossil-free transport, and changes in behaviors and routines.
Decent Work and Economic Growth (Goal 8)
APL promotes sustainable, inclusive, and long-term economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent working conditions. We prioritize the health and safety of our employees by systematically minimizing workplace risks. Our aim is for all our suppliers and partners to comply with our Supplier Code of Conduct.
Responsible Consumption and Production (Goal 12)
APL is committed to the responsible handling of chemicals and all types of waste throughout their life cycle. We strive to reduce waste and emissions to air, water, and soil to minimize potential negative impacts on human health and the environment.
Activities in these areas are embedded in our strategic plan and are regularly monitored by company management.
Strong ethical standards guide our entire organization. All employees and the Board of Directors are expected to follow our Code of Conduct, which clarifies expectations in areas such as confidentiality, conflicts of interest, harassment and discrimination, responsible relationships, anti-corruption, and internal and external representation.
APL also requires its suppliers to comply with the principles and guidelines set out in our Supplier Code of Conduct. This code aims to minimize social risks and is based on ten principles from the UN’s fundamental declarations on human rights, labor rights, the environment, and anti-corruption.
